Ma Wenxiao and Wang Shuai attended the Programme of Global Youth Leadership Academy

On August 4, 2019, 2016 British class Ma Wenxiao and 2015 British class Wang Shuai, together with 8 other student representatives from Shandong university, went to the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin, Italy, to attend the Global Youth Leadership Academy (GYLA) under the Leadership of the leader teacher. Ma Wenxiao was awarded the title of Outstanding student in the GYLA completion recognition.


During the three weeks study at the International Training Center, students learned the cutting edge knowledge of international organizations, had close contact with officials of the United Nations system and international organizations, and personally practiced cross cultural communication and high EQ leadership skills, In the first week of the course, participants systematically studied the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs). In the second week, the students went to study took a four day visit Geneva, Switzerland, visited the United Nations European office - the palais des nations, the United Nations international labor organization (ILO), world health organization (WHO), and listen to the international labor organization (ILO), the world health organization (WHO), international trade center (ITC) and other international organization officials share of course, harvest a lot In the final week of the course, students receive systematic and comprehensive professional training in areas ranging from project management and cross-cultural communication to emotional intelligence and leadership development.


Ma Wenxiao: After three weeks at GYLA, I learned a lot about the knowledge of international organizations, approached the United Nations system at close range, and improved my intercultural communication skills and high EQ leadership. Although the GYLA project is over, our journey to the United Nations is just beginning, and the students of Shandong University are bound to move on to the international stage.


Wang Shuai: Three weeks in GYLA presented me with an incomparable journey and unforgettable memories, which make the summer of 2019 more meaningful for me. This is the first time I step into the door of international organizations. The UN’s inclusive working environment and grand mission attract me a lot. If I am lucky enough to be a member of it in the future, I will spare no effort to help make the world a better place.
