The Norwegian East-West Dialogue Summer Program (NEWDAY)

In order to promote the understanding of the peace and development of contemporary international society and new cooperation, under the support of the Nordic council of ministers, as well as China, Japan and South Korea tripartite cooperation committee, the Nordic Asia research institute (Nordic Institute of Asian Studies), Fudan development institute of Fudan - Europe China research center, Shandong university of political science and public management institute and Norway Nansen (Nansen Academy) jointly launched the "dialogue" between east and west (NEWDAY -the Nansen East-West Dialogue Academy) summer school, which provides a unique exchange and learning opportunity for young students in the three East Asian countries and the five Nordic countries. The program is held every summer (July - August) and lasts for 10 days. Through cutting-edge lectures, group discussions and social Interactions, participants will study new Ideas and important challenges and solutions of the contemporary international community. The site is located in Lillehamer, a small town in south-central Norway. It is located at the northern end of Miyosa Lake, surrounded by farms, forests and beautiful scenery.

The program has been held annually since 2014, mainly for students from Eastern and Northern Europe. The school of Political Science and Public Administration at Shandong University, which has been co-sponsoring of the project since 2017, was led to Norway by Its dean and Professor Daniel A. Bell, an internationally renowned political philosopher. At present, the School has successfully carried out three 'NEWDAY" summer programs, and dispatched more than 20 person-times of doctoral, master's and undergraduate students.

As a training camp for cross-cultural understanding and communication, NERDAY summer program is designed to provide participants with creative. challenging, and social and academic atmosphere of openness, through the way of workshops and discussion, find the common challenge facing the international community. explore the root causes of international issues, and try to provide with cultural sensitivity and creative solutions to today's world needs an open and innovative thinking. rather than a doctrine and narrow mind, based on mutual respect and intercultural dialogue helps to promote international understanding of different cultures and appreciation, which was the NEWDAY the aim of the project implement: by seeking and built to create better mutual understanding and diversity to Create better relations by seeking mutual understanding and harmony in diversity.
