Short-term Lectures by Professor Fulvio Attina from University of Catania

17 May - 11 June 2018, Professor Fulvio Attina teached the course "Theory and Practice of European Integration" for the School of Political Science and Public Administration’s master students. The course focused on the theory and practice of European integration, from the internal rules of operation, decision-making and implementation mechanisms of the European Union to the current state of the EU's external relations and ended with China-EU relations, with Professor Attina teaching in English throughout. Students with an interest in Europe were very welcome to attend the course, which attracted about 25 students actively enrolled in the course.



In the class, Prof. Attina taught mainly through lectures and free questioning, so that the students could understand the knowledge and the context, and got able to think through to identify problems and enrich their knowledge base. Students listened attentively to the lectures in class, and at the same time actively interacted with professor, asking questions and discussing enthusiastically. Through this course, students had a deeper understanding of European integration, both at the theoretical and practical levels. The ability to establish a link between the EU's past and future, and thus trigger a deeper reflection on European integration.


Professor Fulvio Attina is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Catania, Italy, where he has been President of the Italian Society for Political Science (SISP), and has served on the governing bodies of ECPR, ISA and ESCA Italy. He has also served as a visiting professor at numerous universities in the United States, Asia and Europe. His publications include The Global Political System; Contrasting approaches to disasters and emergencies, etc. Recent research has focused mainly on migration issues and the EU's management of the migration crisis.
