ABSTRACT: For a long time, the populism that has been discussed in domestic academic circles has significant differences from the current populism that is popular in the west, and the flow of research paths and themes presents its own characteristics. In the initial academic research, the attention to populism in Chinese academia was based on the relationship between Russian populist, populism and socialism. In the late twentieth century, in the discussion of the lessons of Chinese socialism revolution and construction, the influence of populism ideology on the Chinese revolution was also discussed and the influence of populism on Mao Zedong were debated more heatedly with the background of the objective to construct the socialism market economic system and its repercussions. Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, with the introduction of research results on populism from abroad and the fermentation of the phenomenon of populism at home, the theme of research and the paths have shifted significantly, and the horizons of populist studies have been broadened.
