Shandong University hosted an Academic Seminar on "Britain and the World in the Context of Brexit"

On July 14, a panel discussion was organized by the British Studies Branch of the Chinese-European Institutes, the European Political Studies Branch of the Chinese European Institutes, and the Political Science and The School of Public Administration and the Center for European Studies of Shandong University which was focused on "Britain and the World in the Context of Brexit" at the Shandong University, China. The seminar was held at Shandong University's Qingdao Campus. The theme of this seminar is "Britain and the World in the Context of Brexit". The political, economic and social impact of Brexit, and its impact on areas such as foreign affairs, including Sino-British relations, and its impact on European integration and the world at large. This is of great academic value and practical significance to conduct extensive and in-depth discussions on the impact of the pattern. Zhang Yongbing, Vice President of Shandong University and Secretary of the Party Committee of Qingdao Campus, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.



Zhang Yongbing said in his speech, Shandong University’s Qingdao Campus concentrates on liberating the mind, pioneering and being innovative, enterprising, guided by the spirit of the Party Congress, and strive to build the university’s "double first-class" construction of the new engine, he hoped that experts and scholars of Shandong University to do more for building world-class university construction, pushing Shandong University Qingdao Campus development as well as the development of political science and public management discipline. He also hoped them left valuable advice and suggestions in the aspects such as introduction of talent, discipline development, cooperation and communication.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Tian Dewen, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), delivered a speech in which he gave a concise but profound explanation of the conference theme. The opening ceremony was chaired by Li Jishi, Vice Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration of Shandong University.

The theme of this seminar was "Britain and the World in the Context of Brexit", focusing on the Brexit issue which is attracting attention of the world, and the impact of Brexit on the world. The political, economic and social impact of Britain, its impact on areas such as foreign affairs, including Sino-British relations, and its impact on European integration and the world at large The impact of the pattern and other extensive in-depth discussion. The session was hosted by Professor Wang Xueyu, Director of the Center for European Studies and Professor of the School of Political Science and Public Administration at Shandong University. Prof. Liu Yu'an of the School of Political Science and Public Administration of Shandong University, Prof. Lin Deshan of the School of Political Science and Public Administration of China University of Political Science and Law, Fellow Tian Dewen and Professor Zhao Huaipu of the Foreign Affairs College delivered successive keynote speeches on and gave their own opinions on topics like why the UK should leave the EU, what Brexit would mean for UK political parties The impact on the British party structure, Brexit in the context of globalization and the direction of British diplomacy in the post-Brexit era.

Seminars on "Brexit and the future of Europe", "The domestic and international impact of Brexit" and "British society and history" around conference themes. The seminar held in-depth discussions on such issues. At the closing ceremony of the seminar, Wu Xian, President of the Political Studies Branch of the Chinese European Institute, concluded that, under the impact of Brexit, the UK and the world were in a complex, volatile and highly uncertain world, with policy adjustment issues on all sides, European integration will face even greater challenges. Prof. Wang Xueyu expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the experts and scholars for their support and help to the Center for European Studies and related activities of Shandong University over the years, and the prospect of future meetings of the European Society was raised. The closing ceremony was chaired by Prof. Li Jingkun.



The seminar was also the annual meeting of the British Studies Section of the Chinese European Society.  Shanghai European Institute, China University of Political Science and Law, Diplomatic Academy, Tianjin Normal University, Wuhan University, Shandong University and other 30 research institutions and more than 70 experts and scholars in UK and European studies attended the seminar.
